Armenia's external debt reached $14.531 billion in late 2025, finance minister says

Armenia's external debt stood at $14.531 billion as of December 31, 2025, Finance Minister Vahe Hovhannisyan said on Monday, highlighting the government's efforts to strengthen economic resilience and growth potential through fiscal policy.

Speaking at a meeting of the Armenian parliament's standing committee on financial-credit and budgetary affairs, Hovhannisyan said fiscal policy in 2025 had a mildly restrictive impact and was broadly close to neutral.

He said Armenia's economy grew by an average of 7.9% in 2021-2025, while economic growth in 2025 reached 7.1%.

Hovhannisyan also revealed that Armenia's government debt amounted to 5.311 trillion drams ($14.068 billion) as of March 31, 2026. Compared with December 31, 2025, government debt increased by only 11 billion drams, he added.

"The 2025 fiscal policy was aimed at enhancing the economic resilience and growth potential," the minister said.
