MP urges Armenian opposition to clarify post-election strategy

Armenian opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan has called on opposition forces to clarify their post-election strategy, arguing that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's government continues its policies to sideline political opponents, reshape property ownership and make disproportionate concessions affecting Armenia's interests.

In a social media post on Wednesday, Abrahamyan, a member of the opposition Pativ Unem faction, said the focus should now be on how opposition parties intend to move forward, particularly those that secured seats in the National Assembly following the June 7 elections.

"The question of whether to take up parliament seats should not be reduced to a choice between entering parliament or staying outside it," he wrote. "That decision must be guided not only by campaign promises but also by the broader political goals those parties have publicly declared."

Abrahamyan argued that the ruling Civil Contract party has spent the days after the elections working to strengthen their position and dispel allegations of electoral irregularities, while the opposition has yet to respond with a clear and coordinated strategy.

"The opposition remains hesitant, sending signals to the public that are out of step with the current political realities,” he stated.

The opposition Strong Armenia and Hayastan alliances have entered parliament after the June 7 elections.
