Armenia's Shant Sargsyan defeats Magnus Carlsen at World Rapid Team Championship

Armenian grandmaster Shant Sargsyan has defeated world number one Magnus Carlsen during the seventh round of the 2026 FIDE World Rapid Team Championship in Hong Kong, China.

Sargsyan's victory over the Norwegian star came as teams continued to compete in the three-day tournament, which began on 17 June and runs until 19 June.

The championship is being played as a 12-round Swiss-format event, with teams consisting of six players. Four rounds are scheduled each day.
