Armenian authorities seize 10kg of marijuana in smuggling case

Armenian authorities have arrested four people, including two Iranian nationals, after intercepting 10 kilograms of marijuana smuggled across the border, the State Revenue Committee (SRC) reported on Thursday.

The SRC’s anti-smuggling unit said intelligence operations identified the transport method and those involved. Two Iranian citizens were detained near a Yerevan hotel and charged under Armenia’s Criminal Code for large-scale drug trafficking.

Investigators said three kilograms of the narcotics were intended for resale inside Armenia. Two Armenian citizens were later detained in Yerevan’s Kanaker-Zeytun district on suspicion of acquiring the drugs for distribution.

Searches uncovered items deemed significant to the case. Authorities said the investigation is underway to identify other individuals potentially linked to the illicit circulation of narcotics.
