Opposition party challenges election results in Constitutional Court, citing widespread violations

Representatives of the Wings of Unity Party on Friday filed a petition with Armenia’s Constitutional Court seeking to invalidate the results of the June 7 parliamentary elections and order a new vote, alleging widespread violations that they say undermined the integrity of the electoral process.

Speaking to reporters after submitting the application, its member and lawyer Liparit Drmeyan said the party had rejected the election outcome immediately after the vote and was committed to pursuing all available legal avenues to contest the results.

“We are requesting that the parliamentary elections be declared invalid,” Drmeyan said. “In our assessment, the violations that occurred both on election day and throughout the entire campaign period cumulatively influenced the free expression of voters’ will and compromised the principle of electoral equality.”

Drmeyan stated that the party had submitted extensive evidence to support its claims, describing several categories of violations.

“The most conspicuous violation was the use of administrative resources and repressive measures during the campaign,” he said. “Pressure was exerted primarily on voters and members of the electorate. Various mechanisms were employed to discourage citizens from attending Wings of Unity rallies and campaign events.”

The party argues that the misconduct had a material impact on voter behavior and the overall fairness of the electoral process.
