Jessica Hausner named Golden Apricot jury head

Jessica Hausner, the filmmaker that brought new life and new global prestige to Austrian cinema in the early 2000’s, will head the jury of Golden Apricot’s International Competition this year.

Every few years, Hausner makes major waves at European film festivals with her psychological dramas, which traditionally premiere in either the Main Competition or the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes. This “shocking” journey began in 2001 with her debut film Lovely Rita, which became an instant classic of Austrian cinema.

In a reality, where Austrian film culture was dominated by commercial cinema, Jessica Hausner carved out her personal brand of genre film, which is deeply inspired by her great compatriot Michael Haneke, the ingenious Stanley Kubrick and at times even David Lynch.
