Stepmother indicted in infant's tragic death in Yerevan

Armenian authorities have completed the investigation into the harrowing death of a 1‑year‑old child killed by his stepmother.

The Investigative Committee reported on Saturday that R.E., entrusted with the child’s care, repeatedly assaulted the infant between January and March 2026. Investigators say she struck him on several occasions, causing loss of consciousness.

On March 15, prosecutors allege, R.E. delivered a fatal blow to the child’s head while he lay in bed, inflicting injuries that led to his death.

She has been charged with murder of a helpless person and inflicting severe physical and psychological suffering on a dependent minor. The stepmother has been remanded in custody.

The case has been sent to the supervising prosecutor with a motion to confirm the indictment and forward it to court for trial.
