Israel’s genocide recognition poised to reshape Middle East alliances, analyst says

Israel’s approval of a genocide recognition resolution in the Knesset is expected to reverberate across the Middle East, carrying implications that extend well beyond symbolic justice for Armenians, according to political analyst Stepan Danielyan.

For Armenians, the move represents a long-sought act of historical redress. Yet Danielyan underscores that for Israel and Turkey, it marks a new stage in their fraught political rivalry. Israel’s decision, he argues, is partly intended to offset Ankara’s accusations of genocide in Gaza while simultaneously constraining Turkey’s aspirations for greater influence in the Islamic world.

The development also places Azerbaijan in a difficult strategic bind. Danielyan describes Baku as facing a “serious dilemma” in balancing its close partnership with Turkey against its ties with Israel. He suggests the recognition could trigger a recalibration among states invested in the TRIPP framework, potentially reshaping regional alignments and strategic interests.
