Hundreds of election violations could have affected vote, opposition says

Constitutional law expert Gohar Meloyan, a member of the opposition Strong Armenia party contesting the June 7 parliamentary electios, promised to submit a detailed report to the Constitutional Court documenting hundreds of voting irregularities that could have influenced the election outcome.

Addressing the court on Monday, Meloyan said the opposition had planned to deploy authorized representatives to every polling station but failed to do so at 11 polling centers after several supporters and activists were detained.

"Our plan was to have representatives at every polling station, but our work was effectively crippled on election day," Meloyan said.

She alleged that party representatives faced repeated interference throughout the day, saying communication with them was periodically lost, some were called outside polling stations by police, and at least one documented physical altercation involved members of the ruling Civil Contract party.

"Later today, I will submit a comprehensive report documenting hundreds of election violations which, in our assessment, could have had a significant impact on the conduct of voting," Meloyan said.

The Constitutional Court is hearing a joint case brought by seven political groups seeking to overturn the official results of the parliamentary elections.
