Armenian justice minister defends validity of June 7 elections

Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan on Tuesday dismissed opposition challenges to Armenia’s June 7 parliamentary elections, asserting that no legitimate grounds exist to invalidate the results.

Addressing reporters ahead of Constitutional Court hearings on petitions filed by seven political groups, Galyan emphasized that “election results stand unless formally annulled.” She described the ruling Civil Contract party’s internal leadership votes as a healthy expression of democratic practice, underscoring that parliamentary positions are being filled through transparent elections rather than factional rifts.

“It's for the court to issue a final decision,” Galyan said, adding that the petitions lodged with the Constitutional Court “lack any substantive basis for nullification.”

She expressed confidence that the challenges would ultimately fail, portraying the process as part of Armenia’s democratic resilience.
