Armenia downplays Israel's recognition of Armenian Genocide, calls move politicized

Armenia on Wednesday downplayed Israel’s decision to recognize the Armenian Genocide, with a senior Foreign Ministry official describing the move as politicized and saying Yerevan saw no need to issue a formal response.

Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan told reporters in the parliament that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had already addressed the matter and that the Foreign Ministry would not comment further.

“We consider this weaponization of the Armenian Genocide issue and see no need to issue a response,” Safaryan said.

The Israeli government formally recognized the Armenian Genocide on Sunday.
