Armenia braces for rain as Black Sea cyclone approaches

Armenia will see a sharp swing in weather this week, with soaring temperatures followed by rain and thunderstorms as a cyclone from the Black Sea moves in, the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center reported on Wednesday.

Deputy Director Gagik Surenyan said that warm southwesterly airflows are driving temperatures up by 4–5C, with July 3 forecast to be the hottest day. Highs of 34–36C are expected in Syunik valleys, the Ararat Valley and Yerevan.

By the evening of July 3, however, the incoming cyclone will bring unstable weather through July 8, including showers, hail and strong winds, with downpours likely in some areas.

Surenyan added that colder air from the northwest will lower temperatures by 4–6C on July 4–5.
