Drivers in Armenia can apply for license restoration starting July 6

Starting July 6, Armenian drivers who have lost their licenses will be able to apply for restoration under new rules signed into law by President Vahagn Khachaturyan on June 25.

The legislation amends the country’s traffic safety, state duty, and administrative code laws, introducing a stricter probationary system for reinstated drivers.

Under the new procedure:

• License restoration is available within one year after the suspension period ends, upon payment of a state fee of 50,000 drams. No qualification exams will be required.

• A probation period of one year will be imposed, during which drivers will be allotted six penalty points instead of the usual 13.

• If all six points are used up during probation, the driver will lose their license again for one year.

A transitional clause allows those who lost their licenses after January 1, 2020, a one-time chance to restore them without exams. Any subsequent suspensions will require passing qualification tests.

Applications must be submitted within specific timeframes:

• Within one year starting July 6, if the suspension period ended before that date.

• Within one year after the suspension period ends, if it concludes after July 6.

Applicants must pre-register online under the “Restoration of revoked driver’s license without exams” option and present required documents at their local licensing office, including proof of identity and receipts for state fees (50,000 drams for restoration, plus 12,000 drams for a new license or 6,000 drams for a digital license if the old one cannot be returned).
