Armenia braces for cooler weather after peak heat

Armenia is expected to experience its highest temperatures of the current warm spell today, before a marked drop in temperatures and a return of unsettled weather over the weekend, according to the country's Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center.

Gagik Surenyan, Deputy Director of the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center, said air temperatures across Armenia are forecast to fall by 5-7C from 4 to 6 July. Thunderstorms are expected in many areas, with hail also possible.

The hottest conditions are forecast in the Ararat Valley and the capital, Yerevan, where daytime temperatures are expected to reach between 34C and 36C.

Surenyan said the current warm air mass will begin to retreat from late Friday evening, giving way to cooler air moving in from the Black Sea region.
