Armenia's Constitutional Court upholds parliamentary election results

Armenia's Constitutional Court on Saturday rejected petitions seeking to invalidate the results of the country's June 7 parliamentary elections, leaving in force the Central Election Commission's certification of the vote.

In its ruling, the court upheld the Central Electoral Commission's June 14 decision certifying the official results of the election. Under Article 170(2) of Armenia's Constitution, the ruling is final and took effect immediately upon publication.

The decision dismisses challenges filed by seven political parties and alliances that contested the election results. The petitioners had asked the court to annul the outcome, order a repeat vote or redistribute parliament seats.

The legal challenge was brought by the Strong Armenia and Hayastan (Armenia) alliances, along with the Prosperous Armenia, Wings of Unity, Democracy, Law and Discipline, New Force, and For the Republic parties.

The Constitutional Court began hearing the case on June 26 and concluded proceedings on July 1 before issuing its final decision.
