Ararat Cement Plant resumes production amid government oversight

The Ararat Cement Plant has restarted operations following weeks of disruption, Armenia’s Ministry of Economy announced on Friday.

Deputy Economy Minister Edgar Zakaryan visited the facility to review the production process alongside the plant’s general director. Zakaryan pledged the ministry’s support in addressing any obstacles that may arise, emphasizing that uninterrupted production is vital for preserving industrial capacity and stimulating economic activity.

The restart comes after the plant was sealed in early July following a series of searches at companies linked to businessman and opposition leader Gagik Tsarukyan. Employees staged protests demanding the right to return to work.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Thursday that the government is preparing to appoint a state manager to oversee the plant as part of ongoing proceedings.
