Armenian tax authorities expose major aviation fuel tax evasion

Armenia’s State Revenue Committee (SRC) has uncovered a large-scale tax evasion scheme involving aviation fuel imports from Iran.

In a statement released on Friday, the SRC said a man identified as R.K. set up nine companies through proxy individuals to import significant volumes of kerosene from the Islamic Republic of Iran. The fuel was then sold domestically without proper invoices or accounting records.

According to the agency, three of the companies failed to submit any sales reports, while six filed falsified data. Authorities estimate the scheme deprived the state of about 870 million drams (roughly $2.1 million) in tax revenue.

Criminal proceedings have been launched by Armenia’s Investigative Committee, which is working to identify all individuals involved in the scheme. The SRC said it continues to carry out measures aimed at both exposing and preventing tax violations, urging businesses to declare their actual turnover.
