A 39-year-old man was killed early on Saturday when his Volkswagen SUV veered off a mountain road and tumbled about 250 meters into a ravine in Kotayk Province.
The driver, identified as Azat T., was traveling to Yerevan on the Yerevan–Sevan–Ijevan highway when his Volkswagen Touareg left the roadway at the Chayni bends, striking rocks and embankments before plunging into the ravine, Shamshyan.com reported.
Rescue workers from Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs recovered the victim’s body outside the vehicle after a difficult operation. Authorities have opened a criminal investigation and the wrecked vehicle is to be removed to a police impound lot.
