Armenia wins bronze medals at International Chemistry Olympiad

Two Armenian high school students captured bronze medals at the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad, held in Tashkent on July 10–19.

The global competition brought together 372 students from 93 countries, with each nation allowed up to four participants. Armenia’s delegation returned with two bronze medals and one honorable mention, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports reported.

Artur Mkhitaryan, a 12th grader at the Shahinyan Specialized Physics and Mathematics School in Yerevan, and Mikayel Aleksanyan, a 12th grader at Vanadzor’s Specialized Mathematics and Science School, won bronze medals.

Meri Virabyan, an 11th grader at the same Vanadzor school, received an honorable mention.

Garik Panikyan, a 10th grader from Vanadzor, also competed.

The Olympiad featured both practical and theoretical exams. The Armenian team was led by Andranik Davinyan, a researcher at the Center of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Armen Galstyan, dean of Yerevan State University’s Faculty of Chemistry.

At last year’s Olympiad in Dubai, Armenia earned one silver medal and three honorable mentions.
