Armenian food safety agency disputes Russian concerns over dairy

Armenia’s Food Safety Inspectorate on Friday rejected claims from Russia’s veterinary watchdog, saying recent inspections found no evidence that local dairy producers used milk from sick animals.

The agency said its routine checks, conducted under an annual program and in response to consumer complaints, ensure that all dairy plants comply with national food safety laws. When violations are detected, production is suspended until problems are fixed, and unsafe batches are pulled from circulation and destroyed.

Joint inspections with Russia’s Rosselkhoznadzor took place on July 14–21 at four Armenian dairy companies. While Russian officials have not yet shared their findings, Armenian authorities reported that no evidence was found of diseased milk or imported raw materials being used.

Documents reviewed during the inspections showed that all raw milk had undergone laboratory testing and was deemed safe.

The Food Safety Inspectorate emphasized its commitment to ensuring that every stage of food production meets Armenia’s legal standards for consumer protection.
