A NEW REGULATION PROHIBITS PROMOTION OF SOME MEDICINE

The regulation on promotion of medicine will be effective starting tomorrow. Parunak Zelveyan, chairman of the Armenian Medical Association, detailed some of the provisions praising the regulations as “important and objective.”

The regulation prohibits promotion of the medicine if no prescription from a doctor is required and in case it says – no side effects are caused. The document also prohibits other sick people to promote the medicine which they have tried. “We live in the 21st century when medically grounded proofs are needed,” Zelveyan said.

A study conducted by the association unveiled that most promotion ads have not received a license from the ministry of health. Zelveyan said if the ministry fails to regulate the field people like him will do that. “We will follow the broadcast and inform respective bodies about illegalities,” he said.

Zelveyan failed to answer what punishment measures are taken in case medicine is promoted without license, after all. He said the ministry may answer to that question.
