TURKEY’S MEMBERSHIP TO EU WITHOUT IMPROVEMENTS MAY CLOSE DOORS FOR ARMENIA, ARF OFFICE HEAD SAYS

Aram Manukyan, vice chairman of the board of the Pan-Armenian National Movement (HHSh), said Armenia should not oppose Turkey’s membership to the European Union. By attracting other countries to this policy, Armenia puts herself under diplomatic dependency, he said.

Kiro Manoyan, the responsible person for the Armenian Cause Office of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnakcutiun), argued with his opponents saying the Armenian community in Europe is against Turkey’s membership to EU but with the eyes of Europeans. He quoted sociological surveys among Europeans saying 60% of them are against Turkey’s membership.

Minoyan expressed concern that Turkey may join EU with her present status and without improvements and recognition of the Armenian Genocide. “It would mean that EU is closed for us for ever,” he said.
