Ministry Health sources say there are 7 777 handicapped children in Armenia and 2/3 of them are boys, Karine Saribekyan, mothers and children department head of the ministry, told a discussion today.
According to data, 70% of handicapped cannot move and have hearing defects. Some 66% are children from 10 to 15 and 11.5% are 0-8 aged. Saribekyan say 0.9% make up the handicapped among total number of children in Armenia. The limit is set as of 10% according to World Health Organization (WHO).
Gayane Zakharyan, head of rehabilitation department of the medical center “Arabkir,” said children need maximum adaptation to the social environment through education and trainings.
Leonid Roshal, famous children doctor from Russia, took part in the discussions.
