PROPOSED LAW ON HUNTING PERMITS HUNTING OF ANIMALS IN RED BOOK

Hunters can hunt animals registered in Red Book in near future. The Law on Hunting entitles them to do so in case of necessary documents.

The bioresources management agency of the ministry of nature protection submitted the bill to public discussion last November. The document releases hunting entities from payments against use of state territories for ten years. The entities may also build buildings on these sites.

The benefits are granted for the “development of tourism in Armenia,” government official says. The bill is submitted to the National Assembly but the deputies have not discussed it yet.

Karen Tchenteretchyan, head of the agency, says many countries allow hunting of the animals under protection in case of special license. “I am personally against hunting despite of the fact of being a hunter in the past. In this case, hunting must be viewed as a means to develop tourism,” he says.

The bill permits foreign nationals to engage in hunting if licensed according to the Armenian law.
