DASHNAKCUTIUN TO SUPPORT SERZH SARGSYAN

According to some information disseminated yesterday, Armenian Defense Minister Serzh Sargsyan is appointed as an Acting Prime Minister of Armenia. The Armenian President’s House refuted the information. Some think that someone with less involvement in political processes must be appointed as a prime minister. Other political figures exclude that possibility.

The Armenian Liberal-Progressive Party Chairman Hovannes Hovannisyan said, “The president is better to appoint a neutral actor as a prime minister. However, it is not possible in our country because such issues are toughly tackled here.” In his words, it concerns the issue of applying administrative resources during the elections.

Armen Rustamyan, representative of the Supreme Body of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnakcutiun), said they will keep to two principles. “The first must be observed by all political parties – it is an issue above party concerns, that is, the executive must continue its uninterrupted functions. The second principle is that the appointment of the prime minister and the formation of the government must take place based on a political consent agreed beforehand. In this sense, it is logical that someone from the Armenian Republican Party takes the post. We are ready to support any nomination from the Armenian Republican Party. I believe there are no two opinions on that,” he stated. In the words of Armen Rustamyan, the Armenian Republican Party has good cadres.

Some say that this candidate may be Serzh Sargsyan. “In case Serzh Sargsyan is appointed, we will support his candidature,” Dashnak leader said.
