TWO POLITICAL PARTIES BUILD PHYSICAL ACCESSIBILITY FACILITIES FOR DISABLED IN ALL ELECTION COMMUNITIES

“The Armenian legislation has shortcomings in terms of rights of the disabled. They concern the Armenian Labor Code and Law on Education and Health. Even more important is how the acting laws are executed,” Kim Hartsner, leader of Mission East, told a news conference today.

The conference was called by an alliance of non-governmental organizations, Rights Protection of Disabled Persons. Susanna Tadevosyan, chair of Bridge of Hope, said the alliance aims to protect the rights and dignity of people with disabilities. It also supports their integration into the society.

The Alliance put an objective to mobilize interested parties, including government, political parties and NGOs. They have made a written address to political parties calling them to make simultaneous surdo transitions of their political ads. They also urge the parties to make the election centers more accessible and include issues on disabled rights into the programs.

Suren Ohanyan, chairman of Paros NGO, said two political parties from the opposition have promised to build physical accessibility facilities for the disabled at the election centers. Ohanyan says the parties never asked for “votes” instead.
