ARMENIA’S POTENTIAL IN IT QUITE BIG, MICROSOFT REP THINKS

Armenia’s potential in IT is quite big, director of Microsoft’s Business Management Centre Paul Muckleston said.
«IT sector turnover in Armenia makes around 90 mln USD, which is three times more than it was three years before »,- he said, adding there are around 150 companies in the country with some 4,000 employees.

He said around 80% of Armenia’s IT product is exported to the USA, Europe and CIS countries. Paul Muckleston stressed around 65% of investment into IT sphere comes from abroad, and this figure has a tendency to grow. “These figures speak of existing huge export potential in IT, and I think in the near future the number of IT companies oriented not on exporting of product but on satisfying of internal demand will rapidly go up” – he said.

Increase in number of local companies able to absorb IT products is one of the priority tasks of Microsoft in Armenia, he said. “This is becoming real, especially given good law on rights of intellectual property, high educational standards and strong economic growth”.

On January 30 an agreement between Armenia’s government and Microsoft was signed in Edinburgh, outlining implementation in Armenia of a number of investment, educational and innovative programs by Microsoft.
