Four Churches Renovated

Head of the Tufts University architecture and art department, Lucy Der Manuelian, pointed out to journalists at a press conference that thanks to donated money the monasteries of Vorotan, a monastery in the village of Maisian, two churches in the village of Sarnaghbyur, and Mankanots (of Oshakan) have been renovated, not to mention the general cleanup that took place at Haghardzin monastery.

Der Manuelian conducts research on historical Armenian monuments and churches. She says that a result of her studies is the film “Lost Monuments of Christian architecture,” which has been shown widely on American television. Presented in the film is the history of Armenian monuments and monasteries. She also studies Armenian history, and teaches the subject to non-Armenian and Armenian students at the university.

We point out that Der Manuelian comes to Armenia every year and teaches these subjects to Armenian students.

We have much to learn from her.
