AFRICAN PLAGUE IN ARMENIA?

The Agriculture Department of Lori Regional Administration has made an emergency call to the Armenian Rescue Services saying pigs have been dying in several villages of the region. Regional veterinary services say initial data shows that pigs have been killed by plague.

Rescue Services told Panorama.am that preventive measures have been taken up, quarantine and disinfections points have been set up in several places in the region.

Before that, African Plague was disseminated among pigs in Georgia. Respective institutes of Armenia had banned import of pork and pork products from Georgia.

The African Plague was first registered in 1903 in South Africa. Domestic and wild animal may get infected through touch in a natural environment.

The infection is not transmittable to humans but in case of using pork they may be poisoned.
