MILLIONS TO SCHOOL BUILDING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR SCHOOL UNIFORMS

"School building has reached unprecedented size this year," Yerevan Deputy Mayor Kamo Areyan told a meeting with reporters today. In his words, forty four schools are under reconstruction on 3.7 billion Armenian drams released from the state budget. The reconstruction is over for half of these forty four with the rest to finish in two months. Yerevan municipality is implementing works of $415 million in ten schools, "Linsi" Foundation is working in 5 schools on $10 million funds and the Social Investment Fund reconstructs 11 schools on 256 million dram investment.

Areyan said Yerevan municipality has got an assignment from the government to develop a program for upcoming 2-3 years by which the whole school and pre-school system must be furnished with local heating system.

Speaking about school uniforms, he mentioned that the municipality imposes no obligations in this regard. Asked about requirements at some schools for uniforms, the deputy mayor said it is the voluntary initiative of teacher, school and parent boards.
