Quarantine has been announced in two regions of the Republic, Lory and Tavush. Check points are set up under 24-hour supervision of veterinary sergeants. They take care so that the infection does not get out of the regions.
The disease has been spread in the republic since August 7. It has been confirmed by Russian and Georgian specialist. Grish Baghyan, veterinary inspection head, told a press conference today: “The situation is under control in the republic. Our specialists are doing everything so that the virus is not spread.” However, recent information says that infected pigs have been detected in one of Yerevan pigsties. The sick animals have been killed whereas the rest are “under checks.”
There is no cure or drug against “African plague.” It is different from normal plague in that pigs may be vaccinated against usual plague, which is not the case with the African type. Anyway, Baghyan appealed to citizens not to panic saying the virus is not developed in human body.
