BALLET MASTER NEGATIVELY ASSESSES ARMENIAN BALLET

“I assess the state of the Armenian ballet today as unsatisfactory. It is right, the average techniques of dance art has improved but it is connected with normal pace of development,” Mark Mnatsakanyan, professor of Cinematography Pan-Russian State Institute and ballet-master, told a news conference today

In his words, even after dark days the level of the Armenian ballet was high. “Yerevan has been illuminated. I thought the ballet will be illuminated, too, but it is not so,” Mnatsakanyan said.

He said the Armenian Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet stages mainly operas, and only in Armenian subjects that have been staged many times. “This problem comes from Gegham Grigoryan that only stages operas. His “Anush” was the worst. May be he sings well, but as a producer not so much....” the art expert said. Speaking about the new performances, he said young people are needed and that the new performances should not be only on Armenian subjects. Mnastakanyan believes the ministry must take up measures to solve the situation.

October 6 is the 75th anniversary of the ballet-master. That day “Jizzel” was staged. The art expert was discontent that reporters were not present on the day.
