CREATION OF CENTER FOR URARTOLOGY STUDIES

Ashot Piliposyan, Director of the Erebouni Museum, intends to create a center for Urartology studies within the framework of the museum, as he announced today during a press conference. According to him, today Armenia has no center which would unite those engaged in Urartology. “In that case we will have quite good results,” said A. Piliposyan.

The Center creation project has been submitted to the Ministry of Culture and approved by the latter. The museum Director states that the center for Urartology studies will comprise of several units dealing with: Urartian cuneiform deciphering and interpretation; anthropology; restoration laboratory, where the staff will research the technological specifics of ceramic and metal objects.

”Such studies of technological specifics allow to identify the location the object comes from, i.e. where comes the raw stuff from,” said A. Piliposyan. It should be noted, though, that at present a number of art objects created in the Urartian period are found in the museums of various countries of the world. “In the case the Center is created we should collaborate with various countries, collect the materials and form an information base,” he added.
