Terry Davis advises to know whom one hates and why

“There have been many injustices throughout history committed against the Armenians. But to someone else can have a different outlook, and thinks you should understand this outlook, even respect it, since he is looking after the future of his children,” Terry Davis, general secretary of the European Parliament, said today at Yerevan State University, adding that he continues to recognize the territorial integrity of Georgia and Azerbaijan. In his words, history cannot be forgotten, but also it must be remembered, that this is not subject to law.

“Armenia and Azerbaijan, in becoming European Parliament members, agreed to solve their problems, but there is still no noticeable progress. We have to note that it is a fact that the Karabakh issue is the major stumbling block in the region for the peace of Europe,” the diplomat said. Davis then gave advise to each nation that has a problem with another to not look for things to blame them, but on the other hand, ask why that nation hates him. “Solving problems with Turkey or Azerbaijan means to reconcile. European experience shows there is no other path to take, and other methods only lead to worsening of problems,” Davis said. “Respect, and reconcile. There is no other way,” the secretary said.
