5859 PIGS DIE FROM AFRICAN PLAGUE IN KARABAKH

Some 5859 pigs have died from African plague in the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh. There are total of 31,000 pigs in Karabakh. Currently, prevention measures are taken.

According to Karabakhopen, the disease is widely spread in Martakert and Askeran regions. There are 23 needy communities in Askeran and 21 in Martakert region. As prevention measures, 560 pigs were killed.

The pork of the animals which were not infected is stored. At the moment, 1 kg of pork is sold at 800 Armenian drams. The disease started in Karabakh in late October.

In Armenia African plague is spread in several regions, Lory, Tavush, Gegharkunik and several communities of Ararat. Quarantine is announced in the republic. More than 5500 animals died.
