Turan: Mission of the OSCE MG Co-Chairs’ visit vague

The OSCE Minsk Group American and Russian Co-Chairs are due to visit Azerbaijan, according to the statement spread at a joint press conference of Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadiarov and Turkish FM Ahmet Davutoglu Monday, Turan reported.

According to the source, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev met with the OSCE MG Co-Chairs Robert Bradtke and Yuri Merzlyakov in his residence Tuesday morning.

The talks have been held secretly and no media representatives have been invited. Overall, the mission of the OSCE MG Co-Chairs’ visit is vague, Turan says.

The Co-Chairs may have arrived in Baku on a special mission, as they have immediately headed for the presidential residence after arrival to meet with Ilham Aliyev, not even meeting with the Foreign Minister.

However, according to APA, only the Russian Co-Chair arrived in Baku Tuesday morning, while the US Co-Chair is due to arrive in the afternoon.

APA also reported that Igor Popov has arrived in Baku, too, and will take over the Russian Co-Chair Merzlyakov henceforth.
