The Presidents of Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan are attending a Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) summit in Astana, Kazakhstan. Also taking part in the meeting are their Armenian and Ukrainian counterparts who have an observer status.
The summit host, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said in his welcoming remarks that the summit was symbolic, given that the EurAsEC is 10 this year. He said that it was in Astana that the EurAsEC founding treaty was signed in the year 2000.
The summit agenda features the shaping of a common energy market, as well as a common market of transportation services, and ensuring food and ecological security. This summit meeting is due to be followed by another one, that of the Customs Union.
It’s worth reminding that President Serzh Sargsyan headed a delegation to Astana yesterday to attend the Summit.
