“Mehrnews” Iran-Azerbaijan gas treaty to be denounced

Gas treaty signed in 2004 between Iran and Azerbaijan may be denounced, Iranian “mehrnews” agency reported.

According to the message 1 million cubic meters gas is delivered to Nakhijevan through Iran every day. But a new treaty was signed among Azerbaijan, Turkey and Nakhijevan which defined that annually 500 million cubic meters natural gas should be delivered to Turkey from Azerbaijan and after Turkey without any charges would deliver the natural gas to Nakhijevan.

According to Iranian expert Mahmoud Khagani Azerbaijan’s authorities signing a treaty with Turkey wanted to reduce economic dependence from Iran.

Former director of Iran’s “national company of gas export” Seyyed Qesayi told “mehrnews” Iran implemented the treaty for 6 years, and expert Narsi Ghorban said the treaty between Azerbaijan and Turkey had political mission.
