IMF will consider two candidates no older than 65

 The International Monetary Fund said Monday it would consider two candidates for the post of managing director at the funding-and-advisory agency.

The IMF stood by its requirement that new candidates be no older than 65. Fischer, a former No. 2 at the IMF and former vice chairman of Citigroup, is 67.

In a statement, the IMF said that in line with the board’s decision to specify the procedures for the selection, and in line with the agency’s bylaws, it would consider French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde and Agustin Carstens, governor of Mexico’s central bank and a former deputy managing director at the IMF.
