Republican MP: Raffi Hovannisian’s actions will have negative consequences for country

Republican MP Hamlet Harutyunyan thinks the event Raffi Hovannisian is going to hold on April 9 at Liberty Square (or Republic Square) is false.

“He continues to insist on a false inauguration ceremony, but I have seen nothing of the kind in world’s history. It is dangerous for our country, and our enemies will benefit from it,” Mr Harutyunyan told Panorama.am in an interview, when commenting on Raffi Hovannisian’s plans to create New Armenia on April 9 at Liberty Square.

As for the inauguration ceremony of Serzh Sargsyan that will take place on April 9 in Yerevan’s Sports and Concerts Complex, according to Harutyunyan, it will be a “national holiday” and all MPs must attend it, irrespective of their political relationship with each other.

We must mention that ANC, ARFD and Heritage parliamentary factions are not going to attend the inauguration ceremony. Prosperous Armenia Party has not yet made a decision on this issue.

Referring to Raffi Hovannisian’s actions, Harutyunyan said that he has not yet understood the plans and goals of the Heritage leader.

“His behavior is not understandable. I don’t know his goals here in Armenia. I don’t know who rules these processes, and who rules him. I see no sincerity in his struggle. Raffi Hovannisian’s actions will have negative consequences for the country,” Harutyunyan added.

Former presidential candidate Raffi Hovannisian Hovannisian disagrees with the results of the February 18 presidential elections in Armenia and has been leading mass protest actions. Hovannisian was on hunger strike at Liberty Square of Yerevan from March 10 to March 31.
