Bagratyan says Armenia's entry into Customs Union must be put to referendum

The issue of joining the Customs Union must be put to referendum, member of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) parliamentary faction Hrant Bagratyan told a news conference in Yerevan.

According to the MP, during the campaign for the latest presidential elections he presented 3 programs – on economy, foreign policy and domestic policy.

“As for foreign policy, I was the only candidate who said that all decisions should be made through referendum, and said that Armenia must join neither the Customs Union nor the European Union,” Bagratyan said.

By joining the Customs Union Armenia will enter the ruble zone, the MP noted. “Membership to the Customs Union is impossible to imagine without the ruble zone,” he said.

According to Bagratyan, Armenia’s entry into the Customs Union also has a positive side as it may boost wine and brandy industry as well as may contribute to the increase of Russian investments in Armenia.
