Armenia to mark October 9 as Mountains and Mountaineers Day

The Armenian Mountaineering and Mountain Tourism Federation, in cooperation with Armenian mountaineers from Lebanon, U.S. and other countries, designated October 9 Mountains and Mountaineers Day, Federation’s press service reports.  

The choice of the date is not accidental. On October 9, 1829, Khachatur Abovyan made his first ascent of Mount Ararat.

The Federation issued a letter to the Armenian Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs to declare October 9 as Mountains and Mountaineers Day.
