Haykakan Zhamanak: NSS, police to merge

It is being rumored that Armenia’s police system will be divided into two parts. One part will be transferred to the Ministry of Territorial Administration and the other part will be merged with the National Security Service (NSS), and a new ministry will be created as a result of the merger, Haykakan Zhamanak writes.

“The term in office of NSS head Gorik Hakobyan ends in February 2016. Hakobyan was to quit his post when he turned 65 in 2011, but Serzh Sargsyan extended his powers for another five years. As our sources claim, before he turns 70, NSS and part of the police will have been merged and Gorik Hakobyan will retire. Reportedly, security workers are unhappy with such merger and they hope to persuade Serzh Sargsyan to change his mind,” the newspaper notes.
