Turkish parliamentary elections are historic, says expert

The June 7 parliamentary elections in Turkey are historic, Turkish studies expert Gevorg Petrosyan said on Saturday.

“These elections are historic not only for Turkey, but also for the Armenians,” he told a news conference in Yerevan.

“After 50-60 years’ interval, we can see MPs of Armenian descent in Turkey’s parliament,” he explained.

In his words, at least two Turkish-Armenian candidates have great chances to enter the parliament. “If the Kurdish party succeeds, at least three MPs of Armenian descent will be in the parliament,” he said, stressing that the election campaign is heated.
