Polish workers in UK consider strike over anti-immigrant rhetoric

Polish workers in the UK are considering coming out on strike to demonstrate their value to the British economy – and in protest at how they feel they have been smeared as “benefit scrounging immigrants”, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Support for an unprecedented, unofficial one-day walkout on August 20 has been driven by discussions on internet forums but it has also attracted tacit support from the UK’s biggest Polish language newspaper.

More than half a million Poles now work in the UK and any concerted action could cause widespread disruption to businesses and services across the country, with the construction, food and health care sectors in particular hit hard.

But supporters of the plan are calling on other groups of immigrant workers to join them.
