Alexander Arzumanyan joins ANC initiative to dispute constitutional referendum results in Constitutional Court
MP of the Armenian parliament’s opposition Heritage faction Alexander Arzumanyan has joined the initiative of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) Party. ANC has initiated signature collection in order to ask the Constitutional Court of Armenia to declare the results of the December 6 constitutional referendum null and void.
The authorities should either dispel all doubts or hold a new referendum, Arzumanyan said.
According to the MP, he endorses the proposed amendments to the Constitution of Armenia, but he is opposed to their adoption by means of rigging.
‘I think the new Constitution can be used to inspire hope and ensure the independence of the judiciary,” he said adding that all the mechanisms have been created, and political will is needed.
The Central Election Commission of Armenia on Sunday, December 13, approved the final results of the December 6 referendum on constitutional amendments. 825,521 voters (63.37%) voted for the constitutional reform in Armenia, 421,568 people (32.36%) voted against.
