State Tourism Committee: Number of tourists visiting Armenia increased by 18,2%

The number of tourists that visited Armenia during the first three months of 2017 increased by 18,2% to compare with the number in the indicated period of the previous year, Zarmine Zeytuntsyan, Chairperson of State Tourism Committee of Armenia’s Ministry of Economic Development and Investments told a press conference on Tuesday.

As she informed, 599,341 tourists arrived in Armenia for the period of January-March 2017, while the number for the same period of the previous year was 498, 291.

In Zeytuntsyan’s words, the growth has been largely secured by Iranians with 17,7% rise, followed by Russians – 7.5% as well as tourists coming from China, Germany, and France.

Chairperson of State Tourism Committee next reflected on the works of promoting Armenian tourism potential throughout the world. She spoke of the “Armenia - My seventh sense” event held in Moscow from March 31 to April 1.
“The event featured the tourism potential of Armenia and Artsakh aiming to present Armenia’s culture, art, cuisine in Russia,” Zeytuntsyan said, adding, some 300 visitors attended the exhibition during the first hours of the opening.

“The visitors had an opportunity to win a trip to Armenia through taking a photo at Armenian promotional posters, share the photo on social media and get the highest number of likes. We know the name of the winner who will visit Armenia soon,” Zarmine Zeytuntsyan said.   

Founding Director at EXPO GROUP company Vahagn Mirijanyan, present at the press conference, informed the fourth InTourExpo 2017 tourism exhibition will be held on April 21-23 in Armenia, with 80 local and foreign companies, including from Russia, Georgia, Czech Republic, and Artsakh set to participate in it.
