World-famous Armenian cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan to perform in Astana with his brother

World-famous Armenian cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan is set to hold a concert in Astana, Kazakhstan, together with his brother on August 17.

“Tomorrow is a quite special concert for me. I will perform for the first time in Astana, Kazakhstan with my brother, conductor Tigran Hakhnazaryan,” the Armenian cellist wrote in a Facebook post.

The concert program features pieces by Saint - Saens, Shor, Tchaikovsky and Khachatrurian.

The concert is part of Astana Expo 2017 and dedicated to the memory of renowned musician Mstislav Rostropovich, the post said. 

Narek Hakhnazaryan is recognised worldwide as one of the finest cellists of his generation. Since winning the Cello First Prize and Gold Medal at the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2011 at the age of 22, he has forged strong relationships across the globe with orchestras such as the Mariinsky Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic, Filarmonica de la Scala and the London Philharmonic. Hakhnazaryan was selected to the prestigious 2014 BBC New Generation Artists Scheme, and his performances are broadcast regularly on BBC Radio 3.
