Third President Sargsyan to also be questioned over March 1 case, SIS chief says

All those who have ever been related to the March 1 case will be questioned, Chairman of Armenia’s Special Investigative Service (SIS) Sasun Khachatryan told reporters after today’s Cabinet meeting.

He noted third President Serzh Sargsyan will also be summoned for questioning as part of the criminal case investigating the circumstances behind the March 1-2, 2008 post-election crackdown in Yerevan, which left eight civilians and two police officers dead.   

“Yes, Serzh Sargsyan will also be questioned,” the SIS chief confirmed, adding that it is the investigator who decides the date and topics of interrogation. 

“It is investigation tactics, and the investigator must be allowed to plan his actions himself to conduct an effective questioning," he said. "The questioning is not an end in itself, it’s aimed at obtaining some information, which means the productivity of the questioning must be ensured."

Second President Robert Kocharyan and CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov are charged over the same case and were arrested but later released on bail.
