Chess Olympiad: Haik Martirosyan secures Armenia’s victory at ninth round
The Armenian men’s team has defeated India 2.5-1.5 in the ninth round of the 43rd World Chess Olympiad nearing its end in Batumi, Georgia, with young Armenian GM Haik Martirosyan securing the team’s victory.
Three of the team’s players, GMs Levon Aronian, Gabriel Sargissian and Hrant Melkumyan drew their games against the Indian opponents Viswanathan Anand, Pentala Harikrishna and B. Adhiban, respectively in the round played on Wednesday.
18-year old Haik Martirosyan won a crucial match against Krishnan Sasikiran, which resulted in the Armenian team’s victory, the Armenian National Olympic Committee told Panorama.am.
The other main matches of the tournament are still underway.
